Training Aids - Clickers for Clicker Training [TA101]
Clicker training is one of the simplest and most effective methods for training dogs, cats and horses. The basic technique is to give a command, then click when your dog obeys and then give a food treat. The click shows your dog the moment when he or she did the thing you wanted. This is a terrific way to housetrain a dog or introduce basic commands, but you can go much, much further. Using more advanced methods, such as shaping, you can teach dogs a wide range of very sophisticated commands. This is the method widely used to train assistance dogs to do amazing things like opening doors, fetching washing or the telephone.
Dogs find clicker training fun and tremendously stimulating. Owners find they develop a whole new level of communication with their dog, discovering that their dog is much smarter then they ever imagined. We use clicker training with our own dogs and most of our patients.
Our clickers are made from tough plastic and use a metal tongue to produce the click. If you already know how to clicker train or are attending a training course with your dog then order the clickers on their own. Otherwise get one of the excellent books or information sheets on clicker training that we also sell.
