Pip - From trembling to tremendous!
By Sarah Rolls:
"Pip was a rescue dog, and when he arrived at my home he was an extremely anxious and fearful dog. He was afraid of all sorts of things, in particular fireworks and any loud noises; his fear was so severe that he became unable to respond to me and would become very distressed. Not only was this upsetting to witness, but if we were out on a walk it was dangerous and very difficult to manage.
After seeking professional behavioural help Pip was given a rehabilitation programme, which included the use of the 'Sounds Scary' CD. After the first few weeks of using the CD there were gradual signs of improvement; four months later he now ignores fireworks and loud bangs, even when we are out walking! He is now allowed to go off the lead and it is wonderful to know that he won't bolt if he hears a sudden bang.
We still keep up playing the CD loudly twice a week and it still bemuses me to see Pip laying on his bed completely unfazed by noises that just a few months ago would have had him trembling!"
Jessie - From Gun Shy to Gun Happy!
Rachael Wilkinson writes:
"Jessie wasn't gun shy from a puppy, but became gun shy when she accidentally stood too close to a dummy launcher.
After this frightening experience Jessie became petrified by loud noises, and would shake like a leaf and hide her head under my coat, even just at the sound of a starting pistol. She even became scared of much quieter noises, right down to the popping sounds when logs were burning on the fire. Whilst she was in this state she could not be reasoned with, and would not even accept a biscuit! A professional photo shoot that I had booked with her was almost totally ruined, because she heard a gun after the first photo, and then she looked really upset in every photo!
I used the CD's at feeding times initially, starting them very quietly, and gradually increasing the volume at levels she was comfortable with without showing any signs of fear. After doing this frequently for some time she had become much more used to the noises. I was then able to start incorporating mornings at a local clay shoot, starting at a distance from the guns, and gradually moving closer using pieces of roast chicken as rewards. Slowly we were able to move on to short retrieves within ear shot of the guns, then retrieves marked by a starting pistol.
Thanks to SoundsScary she is now a completely different dog. You would never believe she was gun shy, and she is going to make a wonderful picking up dog on the shoot!"
Lexie's Sounds Scary success
Diane Wheeler writes:
"I bought a Sounds Scary CD from you a few months ago and promised to give you some feedback. My Irish Water Spaniel, Lexie, had been frightened at the Country fare when Cannons were set off during the battle re-enactment. Even hearing distant bangs would result in her coming close to me and walking with her tail down and most unhappy - before the event she had been fine with gunshot and firework noises. Using the CD has helped tremendously and now if there is shooting or a clay pigeon meeting going on when we are out walking she comes to within yards, but her tail is still up and before long she will be off chasing squirrels or on the trail of rabbits again. Thanks once again, I tell lots of people about your excellent product."
Florence, Cathy's new puppy
After my son left for university, there was a huge gap in our household, so we decided to get another dog. As part of our preparation for the new arrival, we bought the Sounds Sociable CD to help with the socialisation process. In order to give the new puppy the best start with this, we gave the CD to the breeder so that she could play it to Florence and her litter mates before she left her mum. When we brought her home we continued to play the CD on a daily basis so that she became accustomed to normal day to day household sounds. We will keep you posted on the results...
Suzanne Wood - RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital
"I work at a large charity hospital where we see a vast number of clients on a daily basis. I am responsible for running nurse clinics and providing information to clients on different topics. I run regular sound phobia clinics at our practice, and many clients have reported success using the Sounds Scary CD and DAP. "
Claire and Oscars' story
Claire from Nantwich had been planning on getting a puppy for months. She really wanted to do everything the right; she read many books and tried to gain as much information as possible before she brought her first puppy home.
A friend recommended that Claire should use the Sounds Sociable CD to help her puppy become used to the sounds that he would be likely come into contact thoughout his life and to help prevent the development of sound phobias later on in life.
Oscar is now 12 months old and has grown into a very well socialised and settled dog, thanks to the contiued use of the CD and programme."
Carol Tanks - Sutton Coldfield
In June this year, we bought both the Sounds Scary and Sounds Speedy CDs because one of our dogs was scared of motorbikes. I must admit that the Sounds Scary CD worked so well that we found it useful to calm the dogs down prior to the firework season, I love listening to it! Our other dog is slowly getting used to motorbike noises and this has all been down to playing the CD regularly. I would highly recommend these products to anyone with dogs afraid of any loud noises!
